As I have mentioned before, I want to start posting more fashion related blogposts, which is why I thought I would share with you some of my favourite things from different categories, starting with this post about formal dresses. Even though wedding season is almost over, I am always looking for inspiration when it comes to evening dresses, mainly because I think they are the hardest to shop for. Even when you find a dress that you like, there's always a chance that it might not fit, or it might not suit your body shape, or many other reasons. Therefore, when I find a dress that I like, if my budget allows it, I'll usually buy it, because you never know if you're going to come across a dress you really like in the near future. Anyways, because this summer I attended several weddings, I discovered in my search for dresses that there are a few things that really draw me to particular dresses, and I thought I would share that with you today. Here are five things that I especially look for in a dress.
(All dresses shown below are from AvivaDress*)
V-neck line. I find that this type of dress looks most flattering on a lot of different body shapes. I wore a similar neckline dress for my graduation day, with the difference that it was a short one, not this long. I would not wear this dress as wedding guest though, definitely not very appropriate for that, in my opinion.
Strapless. What drew me to this particular evening dress is both the fact that it is strapless, which makes it look very elegant, and the fact that it has the golden-white combination. I am, however, always a little bit skeptical when buying strapless dresses because - however lovely and sophisticated they look - they can be a little uncomfortable to wear if they weigh too much. But if you can get past that, they look amazing.
Embroidery. This type of embroidery is something that always catches my attention, mainly because it looks more intricate and unique. I especially like a golden or cream embroidery like the one pictured above, against a dark fabric (black or navy).
Beaded. I'm going to be honest here, I don't like all types of beads, because some can look very tacky. I like when they're one single color and spread as if they fade on the dress (kind of like an ombre effect). I think that is the most elegant way to have beads on a dress.
Simplicity. A simple black dress is something that will go with anything and everything (prom, wedding, cocktail events etc.). I prefer a simple dress over anything and bringing a few appropriate accessories, like some statement earrings, will bring the whole look together.
